The night started as a date night, dinner and a movie. Dinner was at Johnny Carino’s, they have the BEST Italian margaritas!!! The movie had not been decided yet, but that wasn’t a big deal. Dinner was great, I was having a good time despite the yucky, rainy weather. At one point, Paul’s older brother Jess called, but Paul did not answer, I assumed at the time because we were eating. Once we were done with dinner, we were headed to the movie theater when Jess called again. This time Paul answered and apparently Jess had gotten in a big fight with his wife, Danielle, and left their home and got a room at the Embassy Suites. He wanted Paul to come talk to him and help calm him down. Paul, being the good brother that he is, agreed. I offered to let him take me home since it might be weird with me there, but he said I could just stay in the car and if need be, he would take me home.
We got to the hotel around 8:45 and Paul went in. I sat in the car for 15 minutes or so, waiting for Paul to come out. He ended up calling and asking if I wouldn’t mind coming up to the room since Jess wanted a female perspective on some things. I figured date night was over anyway so I agreed. He told me they were in room 630 and I said I was on my way.
When I got in front of the room, I could tell that it was dark, which was strange since Paul was in there with his brother. I knocked on the door and Paul answered, holding a red rose in his hand. I could tell that there were candles and rose petals. I walked into the room, very confused and very nervous. Paul handed me the rose and gave me a hug. I asked what was going on to which he replied he wanted us to look at some memories together. At this point, I think the tears started to well up in my eyes.
One of my biggest complaints is that Paul and I don’t have any pictures. I mean, we have tons of pictures, but they are all digital and on the computer. We don’t have albums we can just look though. Paul did the best thing for his proposal. He printed off over 90 pictures of us and our friends, from the beginning of our relationship to the present and had them all over the room. Taped to the mirrors and artwork, covering the tables and counters! He had candles in groups of three that he said represented him, me and us. Rose petals were scattered all over the room and champagne was chilling. He also made a CD of all my favorite songs from Norah Jones to Michael Buble and that was playing softly in the background.
I held his hand tightly as we walked around looking at the pictures and with each step, I got more and more nervous. I could tell he was nervous, too, and that only made me MORE nervous! He led me to the second room where he had laid out the rest of the dozen roses and more rose petals and a card for me. He handed me the card to read. It said “I made a wish……and you came true”. Well I just turned into a blubbering baby at that point! As I was giving him a hug, he was fumbling with his pocket. He then said “So I have a question to ask you…”. He got down on one knee, slipped the ring on my finger and asked me, “will you marry me”? I was crying so much I could barely get out “YES”, but I did, and now we are engaged after 3 years and 8months plus of dating!
